Day 1 – Sleep Gear Resolution from Sleeping Quality Experience Official
It was a hot summer night in Boston. The room temperature stayed at around 77°F. I didn’t turn on the air conditioner last night.
I slept for 7 hours and woke up feeling mentally clear.
There was a mild ache beneath my shoulders—these two spots were the main pressure points where my back touched the hard slats under the bedding.
Last Night’s Setup
-
On the slats, I placed a 2cm horsehair-filled topper.
-
Over that, I laid a fall-weight silk comforter.
-
A Pima cotton sheet from Costco was used as a protector layer.
-
On top of that, I used a cotton sateen sheet, which was the surface in direct contact with my skin.
-
I wore a short-sleeve silk T shirt and long pajama pant.
-
For pillows, I used a wool knops-filled pillow for the neck and a wool batting-filled pillow as a body pillow.
-
A summer silk-filled comforter (mulberry silk inside, cotton outer fabric, no duvet cover) was used as the top layer.
Result
-
Sleep was uninterrupted. I did not wake up or change position during the night.
-
I woke up with a clear head.
-
There was slight pain in the upper back, at the shoulder blade area. These are the highest points of contact when lying flat, so the pressure may have built up there.
Comparison with Past Setup
Over the past summers—and for years before—I slept on a big-brand hybrid mattress made of coils and memory foam.
-
The pillow was Big Brand memory foam as well.
-
The air conditioner was usually set to 72°F.
-
The same comforters were used: very light silk-filled comforter in summer, medium-weight ones in other seasons.
-
Same wool-filled neck and body pillows for past 3 months.
-
Same Pima cotton sheet from Costco as protector, and the same Frette cotton sateen sheet on top.
Previous Experience
-
I often woke up with a foggy mind.
-
My back felt sore along a larger area, I also need to shift the sleeping position from back to sides, I could even remember after woke up.
-
I often woke up in the middle of the night, felt heat building up under my body.
Next Step
I plan to build a plant-based, flexible foundation underneath the topper without coils.
